Nimrod MR2 XV254 became the last of its type to leave RAF Kinloss.

July 29: Nimrod MR2 XV254 became the last of its type to leave RAF Kinloss in Moray - but not by air. Acquired by the Highland Aviation Museum at Inverness, the fuselage of XV254 was loaded onto a road transporter for the 25 mile journey to its new home.

Museum owner James Campbell said “I am really pleased that Highland Aviation Museum has been successful in acquiring a Nimrod - it is fitting that one remains in the north of Scotland, close to its home for the last 35 years. Once we get the airframe to the Museum, we will have to carry out some engineering work, but we hope that XV254 will be open to the public in time for the ‘Tattie’ holidays, if not by spring next year.”

XV254 last flew in March 2009 and had completed over 19,000 flying hours.
