Manchester Airport has revealed plans for a new museum based around its Nimrod.
June 3: Nimrod MR2 XV231 has been repositioned to Manchester Airport’s Visitor Park and the airport has revealed plans for a new museum in the style of a military briefing facility, giving visitors the opportunity to go on board the aircraft that was on-call for action 365 days a year at just a two-hour standby.
XV231 arrived at Manchester on April 21 and has undergone a decommissioning process to remove brake and hydraulic fluids, plus fuel and any potentially sensitive equipment. After making the short 2,200yd move on May 25, it is now parked opposite Concorde, alongside the Trident airliner at the Park, next to the airport’s runways.
It is hoped that the new attraction will be open by the autumn, subject to planning approval.
